I graduated summa cum laude from Berea College with a Bachelor of Arts in Biology. I haven taken many courses in biology and chemistry. I am also very proficient in algebra and trigonometry, and I have taken one course in calculus. As a high school student I worked in an after school program tutoring children in grades 3 to 8 in reading and math. During college I volunteered in “one-on-one tutoring” where I met weekly with a student to tutor her in basic math. I also worked as a teaching assistant in the biology department of my college. I also have a B.S. in broadcast journalism and currently am a literacy teacher in the fifth grade at LaFollette Elementary School in Campbell County. During my four years at East TN State University (ETSU), I tutored college students in General and Organic Chemistry, and multiple Psychology courses. I like to accommodate to a child's personality and likes to help them to learn through distinct processes. When given the opportunity in the correct manner, children can learn most of what is put in front of them. I am a discussion based teacher. I prefer to engage the students higher level thinking with a questioning approach. I do not think that lecture or rote memorization are proper ways to educate a child.
