My comments on tutoring Law : Member of the Florida Bar (2006-present); Member of Florida Law Review; Juris Doctor from the University of Florida (2006); Have represented hundreds of clients in state and federal court.

I have over 5000 hours (nearly 10 years) of tutoring experience, including the SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, LSAT and other selected subjects. I have been helping high school and college students get accepted to undergraduate and graduate programs all over the United States, including UF, Michigan, Stanford, FSU, UCF, and many others. My first teaching experience was with the Department of Juvenile Justice when I was fresh out of college. It was, believe it or not, a lot of fun! When I went on to Law School I was fortunate enough to be selected as a Teaching Assistant for Legal Research & Writing and Appellate Advocacy. I also tutored first year law students as a member of the Florida Law Review. Recently, I spent a quarter teaching bankruptcy law to paralegal students in Madison, WI, and had a great time doing so. My students seemed to enjoy it nearly as much as I did. Now that I am ba ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I encourage students to be well versed in the basics; reading, writing and arithmetic. I am also a believer in making sure students take as many college ready courses as possible. The full math and science venue are of utmost importance. At the community college, I acted in an advisory capacity, one-on-one, to the high school students that I dealt with.
I am a technical and business oriented individual, having an MS in Civil Engineering and an MBA in Finance. I worked my way through school, having started at a community college. My last position, Program Director, was at that same community college, Monroe Community College, in Rochester, NY. With my education and work experience, I am well versed in several areas of science, business and math. I attended Florida Presbyterian College - an institution Time Magazine once called "The Harvard of the South". FPC is now known as Eckerd College. After practicing law for almost twenty years, I returned to education, wth history being my first love. I graduated from FPC in 1972 with a degree in history and never stopped studying.
I consider teaching to be the noblest of professions. There is no greater joy than to see the light in a students eyes and know that you have aided in bringing that knowledge to him/her.

My ideal teaching style is by using questions and challenging my students to get the answers. I am very consistent as well on memorization and reading. Classical education - namely the Aristolean method - is something I strongly advocate.
I have tutored both college-age and high school students for a number of years, and my strong areas are History, English, and Social Science. I have also served as a Sunday School teacher for middle-school students and adults.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have three years teaching experience, mainly with disadvantaged populations, and five years tutoring experience. My rigorous teaching experience gives me the advantage of being able to work with any type of student with patience and courtesy. I coached volleyball at the Junior Olympic level for five years, working with girls from 12-18. When they had trouble in school, I tutored them before practice in a wide variety of subjects. The students told me they were appreciative of my ability to explain concepts and my unwavering dedication to achieving the goals set out for us.
My teaching style is one of patience and encouragement. Not every student learns at the same pace. It is important to me to analyze the student's style of learning and try to comprehend where they might be having trouble understanding the concept or problem. For example, if the student has trouble with s ... read more

More About This Tutor...

While attending Stetson College of Law I mentored elementary students at a local elementary school. I also volunteered as a tutor with the Adult Literacy Program in Pinellas for two and a half years. My student improved from a second grade reading level to a fourth grade reading level in that time. I currently volunteer with the Lawyers for Literacy program as a reading tutor for third graders preparing for the FCAT. I have professionally tutored middle and high school students helping them prepare for exams and the FCAT. I enjoy working with students of all ages to improve their reading and test taking skills.
I find helping people learn a skill and build confidence extremely rewarding. I use a sense of humor to make learning fun and keep my students interested. I also encourage my students by challenging them to attempt things they think they can't accomplish.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently finished my MBA and graduated with high honors. It speaks to my drive for success and my passion to learn that I did so while pregnant with twin girls (which I gave birth to the day after my last class). I graduated from the University of Phoenix which utilizes an un-conventional learning model that involves writing a plethora of research papers and discussing complex theories and ideologies with a learning team of other students. I really enjoyed this model and it helped me to hone my abilities as a tutor. Throughout my academic career, I have helped other students in the areas of biology, math, business, and English. I would love to use the knowledge that I have gained from my years in academia to help others succeed.
I really enjoy meeting new people and discovering ways to help them succeed. I discovered at a very young age that I learned very differently than many o ... read more

I truly enjoy working with all students. As you can see with my previous experience I don't give up on students. I believe that all students can learn however, they may learn differently. Through the use of brain inventories, I have helped students discovery the best way for them to learn. In my research I discovered that people learn through visual, auditory or kinesthetic. As a result I usually include activities in my lessons that cover the different learning styles.

A Little Bit About Me...

As a law school graduate, I have excellent writing and grammatical skills, which I attained through my work on Law Review as well as through my class work. While I was in college at George Washington University, I tutored students in English and writing at a high school in Washington, D.C. I moved recently to Tampa, and I am looking for a similar tutoring opportunity here.
In my tutoring experience, I have learned that children learn in different ways and that one way of learning may work for one student, but may not necessarily work for another. I am patient, and I strive to use a manner of teaching that makes the material "click" for the student. I have the ability to place myself in the student's shoes and see things from their point of view. I strive to be both respected as well as serve as a role model for the student.

A Little Bit About Me...

In my current job, I feel I am a strong trainer because I am able to determine people's learning styles. By determining their style, I am able to train them in the way that they will learn more quickly. In tutoring, I would have the skills to determine how the child will learn the information. Some children might work better by watching someone else solve the problem while explaining the steps. Some might learn by just reading a complete step-by-step process. Some students may want to try the problem on their own, and then explained where they went wrong. They may also want a combination, by doing the problem themselves while the tutor talks them through. I have trained employees in all of those ways, based on their personal learning styles. I would be able to complete the same process with children.
I have been in management for six years. In those six years, I have found t ... read more
