I have found through my 6 years of teaching students, that flexibility is a key component. Explaining a difficult concept to a student should be customized to each individual students' needs. Chemistry is one of my top subjects! Currently, I am enrolled in AP Chemistry. I know general chemistry very well and many components of AP, including, but not limited to, stoichiometry, kinetics, gas laws, and thermochemistry.

My teaching style is flexible because every student learns differently. What I usually start out with is showing examples and having the student ask questions along the way. Then, I allow the student to try some problems as we work through them together.
Although I do not have much experience with regards to tutoring, I often help my fellow peers with their homework and tutor them on the things that they struggle on. I am a strong student, currently #1 in my class, with straight A's with enrollment in Advanced Placement classes. Chemistry is one of my top subjects! I am applying to medical school in the summer of 2013, so I have had vast experience with many fields of chemistry. In college I have taken General Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab, Biochemistry, and Organic Chemistry 1 and 2 with lab. I also took and did well on the MCAT and therefore spent time studying for the Physical Sciences (which includes Chemistry) section of the test.

Math, Science, Writing, and Critical Thinking

During my time at Colorado College, I worked as a chemistry tutor helping my younger peers traverse the challenging General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry course loads. But because of CC's rigorous alternative schedule--where you take one class at a time, for one month each class--it's necessary to learn to pick up new concepts very quickly, I often found myself being asked for help in classes I myself was taking. I never minded this, because being forced to explain something is the best way to ensure your own understanding of the concept. That is why I try to avoid directly answering questions my students ask me, instead dropping hints and asking questions of my own that guide the student to their own answer, in their own words.

I find out what exactly the student is lacking in the subject by asking a few basic questions on the topic and make a judgement of the student's understanding on the topic and then proceed forward. I normally explain the concepts in diagrams so that it makes it easier for the student to visualize the problem and give the student plenty of practice problems for him/her to work on to make their understanding better
