Passion to teach students to be successful!

I am a retired teacher with over 38 years of teaching both children and adults with diverse backgrounds. I have a BA and Masters degree in Education with an endorsement in ESL/Bilingual Education. I was a reading coach for 8 years where I taught teachers the best practices in teaching reading. I have taught every grade level and including college level. The last 4 years I have taught international students in an intensive English language program at a college level. My teaching style would be to find the student's primary learning style and converting the information he or she needs into a format that fits that learning style. Each subject would be made as visible or concrete as possible, so that the student could interact with the material on more than just a visual/conceptual level. Showing the student how the material can relate to real-life situations and opportunities would be a vital part of the instruction.

A Little Bit About Me...

To be honest I have no experience in teaching outside of the college setting. The two years marked denotes my two years in upper division English classes at SVSU where student critiquing was the norm. Beyond helping my friends with their papers I took several classes on teaching and as such have academic experience, but not real world (ie K-12) experience. I have been in several writing workshops that cover a variety of English facets from research writing to creative writing to poetry. This spanned the second two years of my college career.
