My experience is very much what your child's experience could be. I was raised with limited financial resources by a single parent in the state of Florida. I found classroom lessons catered to the "typical student" difficult. Fortunately, I had some wonderful teachers and a parent who encouraged me to persevere and learn about myself. I earned a full scholarship to complete my Chemical Engineering Degree at a Florida university. As a current graduate student I've learned to not only be a student but also a teacher, in assisting my peers and family in subjects beyond their understanding. I've earned my bachelors in science in Chemistry, and I am currently working on my Masters Degree In Aeronautical Science with A focus in Air traffic Management and operations.
I feel like the best way to teach a subject is to break it down to the basics and build your way up, I feel you cant have a full understanding of something if you cant teach it yourself. During my 13 years in the Navy, I have always excelled in my academics and I welcomed the opportunity to serve as a mentor to my peers as well as subordinates. I have been active in every school that my children have attended and currently work as a tutor occasionally for my sons 8th grade AVID class (math & science) at Galaxy Middle School, Deltona, FL. I have extensive knowledge in many fields that helped me achieve my Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Criminal Justice. My formal education includes a B.S. degree in Chemistry and an M.S. in Chemical Engineering both from Purdue University. I enjoy teaching and took the opportunity to serve as a Chemistry T.A. (teacher's assistant) as an undergraduate. My master's program also included teaching Chemical Engineering classes to undergraduates. During my career with Eastman Kodak and Vertis, I have been involved with technical training of software applications and processes. I love math and science and enjoy teaching others how fun it can be!
I try to make learning fun and relate it to things that people experience in the outside world. It's so satisfying to 'see the light bulb turn on' when they are shown, for example, how a pinecone represents the Fibonacci series, or a fern a fractal.

A Little Bit About Me...

It is very important for me that each student can understand what I'm explaning, this is why I use different types of methods to help them visualize and understand my explanations. For each student I used to prepare sketches, brainstorms and flashcards. When it comes to math or sciences courses I had a white board for the equations. Also, I use, as examples and comparisons, things that they do frequently for better and fast comprehension and understanding.
During my high school and colleges years I enjoyed helping my peers in different courses, noticing that I'm really good when it comes to teach.
