As a University of Southern Maine graduate, I look forward to having my own classroom where I can touch many students' lives. Because I have substituted at all grade levels and with all ability levels, I know how different each and every student learns. It is important to first get to know the individual and ascertain what techniques will work best for them. Mutual respect is very important. A major key to learning success is confidence. If you show the student respect, they will have more confidence in themselves. Children have a way of giving adults exactly what they think the adult wants or expects. If you expect the student to succeed they will be more apt to work toward that goal.
