A Little Bit About Me...

I rediscovered my joy for teaching in my Masters program achieving an M.A. in Theology and Popular Culture. I helped my friends build stronger research papers and better study habits. I have for the past two fall Semesters been teaching what I think are important skills for each person to acquire- reading, study and critical thinking skills. I think these skills help the student accomplish whatever goals they have set for themselves.
I enjoy the individuality of each student. One student may learn best visually, while another through kinesetics, each a valid learning style. Once a child can find their style they can confidence in their ability to learn. I believe each child can learn I just need to help them find the confidence to do so. I have over 9 years of combined teaching and instruction experience at the junior high, senior high, private, collegiate, and adult levels. Through scholarships, I have earned a B.A. in Psychology from Ohio Northern University and an M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction from Ashland University. I am currently working on my second M.Ed. degree and beginning my 3rd season as a Head Boys Track Coach. I have taught and tutored in almost all subject areas but my strongest competencies reside in language arts, math, health, and study skills. I am also a published research writer and poet. I received my BS degree with the intent of gaining a MA in teaching. While I was obtaining my MA, I performed as a substitute teacher in several school districts. I had access to 2 long-term teaching positions. The first was for high school special education in history and the second was for 8th grade language arts. I did teach 1 full year as an intervention specialist for a junior high.
The first thing that I like to do as a teacher is tell my students why I chose my profession. I think a little insight as to who I am, lets my students know how passionate I am about my job. All students do not learn in the same ways, nor do they learn at the same paces. It is my job to build upon my students' strengths, and make them believe that they can succeed.

I love teaching and helping others learn something new. I love the smile in a child's eyes when they figure out what they have learned. As a type one diabetic, I constantly figure out new things and apply them to my life. I want to impact those I teach for the better, so they can share their knowledge with the world. I believe knowledge is the greatest gift.
I graduated from Mount Union College in 2006. After that, I became certified in the Berlitz method and also tutored foreigners working in the states. I also taught elementary Spanish at Woodridge. In college, I would help my friends with their studies.
