More About This Tutor...

I have 6 years experience tutoring various aspects of math and chemistry to individuals of all ages: I was varsity captain of my high school math team and led tutoring sessions for algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and statistics. I served as a cub scout assistant den leader until I entered college and used to help young scouts with their homework while babysitting for many of their families. I am currently in my final semester at Georgia Southern University and will graduate cum laude with a BS Chemistry degree and mathematics minor this December. My career goals are to eventually teach chemistry to college undergraduates, and to do some resaerch in the field of drug design for medicinal treatment of Alzheimer's.
I liken tutoring sessions to the repair of a crumbling pyramid. I believe that every student is capable of learning and understanding the material that is present ... read more

I have substitute taught for over 16 years and this past year I worked with the SES program tutoring. My areas of focus are sciences and maths but I have had to tutor reading. This year I tutored middle school students but I have tutored elementary as well. I tend to focus on the high level maths and sciences often taking long term positions in high school.
I started substitute teaching when I was in undergraduate school just as a source of income and because I like teaching. My mother is a retired teacher who taught for over 30 years. I work as an engineer but I always find time to tutor. I have tutored with an SES program and have found that this worked really well. Focusing on how the children learn as a method to approach how they should be tutored is very effective and the children learn.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have always valued education. I can remember comparing grades and discussing what we learned in class as early as 2nd grade. We had a healthy competitive spirit that helped us grown into productive adults. I first began tutoring in an afterschool program in 1995. I have always loved assisting students with learning. I have even considered getting my teaching certification. I currently have my MBA in Business management and feel most comfortable teaching math reading and English to children ages 5-12.
I love all children. I believe all children learn in different ways. it's up to us to determine what workds for them and help them acquire the knowledge they need. I am patient, easy going, and caring. My goal is to provide the best education possible. All children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. Educators are the w ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with children. I think it is a pleasure to teach children how to become positive role models, and great leaders. In today's society many children learn in different ways. For example some like to listen, and some like to take notes. I think the importance of teaching is making sure each child knows the concept, and material.Being able to listen to your students is an important part of being able to teach. Most children open up more when they feel the teacher understands. I would love to help change a childs life.
I graduated from Paine College with a BA. While in college I had the opportunity to experience working with many different students. My social work degree has allowed me to gain knowledge in areas such as: working with homeless people, working with children that came from unstable households, and much more. In addition I joined a sorority which has allowed ... read more

More About This Tutor...

As a parent of four, educator, education advocate and mentor, I have spent most of my adult life working with young people in various learning enviroments. I have a love for and commitment to educational preparedness for students of every learning level. I hold a Bachelor of Arts degree, the Master of Social Sciences degree, a Master of Arts degree, and will receive the Ph.D degree in Educational Innovation and Human Development in May 2010.
My teaching style is highly interactive and engaged. The relationship between student and teacher is based on mutual respect for our respective capabilities. An important first step in teaching, and particularly in introducing new material, is to construct a frame of reference familiar to the student, and then begin to expand that frame to enhance conceptualization and mastery of new skills and knowledge.
