Experienced Tutor

I enjoy teaching and working with children. While I believe that all children can learn, they do so in their own ways and at their own pace. It is the tutor’s responsibility to ensure that the student(s) understand the material. It is important to show students how one idea builds on the last. I will help your child learn the material in his/her own way. I consider myself to be patient, non-judgmental, and knowledgeable of the subject matter. I truly believe all children can meet their potential if they are given the appropriate surroundings and learning experiences. I am very proud of the kind letters of thanks that I have received from parents of some of my students this year.
As an engineer and I have taught planners and engineers how to use software to do calculations. I have taught GRE preparation for Kaplan (analytical and verbal reasoning) both to small classes of 3 to 7 ... read more

My comments on tutoring Florida Writes : I am currently tutoring students in preparatiion for Florida Writes.

I have always been a teacher. I taught swimming when I was 14 and French to fifth graders when I was in high school. I love working in education. I believe that all people, young and old, can learn and reach their potential. My teaching style is calm and patient. I have a good sense of humor and am creative. However, I have high expectations for my students and for myself. I find joy in learning and believe that teaching allows me to share this joy.
I have been a teacher for 40 years. I retired because family care-giving required my full attention. My studies prepared me to teach and my experience prepared me to meet the needs of each student. I am experienced in all areas of Language Arts; reading, writing, grammar and literature as well as elementary math, history, psychology and the arts. A Little Bit About Me...

I believe every student has their own style of learing. I am very much a visual learner and utilize this style. Many students, though, are tactile learners and/or find their attention is kept using computers. I love discovering what type of learner each child is. I like to always be positive and instill in my students that they can accomplish anything we just have to work together and discover their "niche". Seeing a child grow and succeed is my greatest reward.
I have earned a Bachelor's Degree in Social Work and have worked extensively with and for children including a Case Manager at Clay County Behavioral. I have always wanted to be a teacher so earned my Teaching Certification through St. John's River Community College in ESE and Pre-K through 3rd Grade. Honors High School Graduate with experience in teaching

My lessons can range from private lessons to group lessons of no more than five at one time. I prefer to be very involved in my students' progress, and will readily explain any questions that they do not understand. My main strategy is basically to lay out the concepts that will be covered that day, go over several practice problems, and give three or four practice problems for the students to work on independently. For art students, I will demonstrate with explanation the concept that we will be covering in that lesson (be it portraiture basics or still life basics), draw diagrams with the steps clearly labeled, and have the student independently work on a similar piece which applies the same concepts. I will supervise the student's progress and correct any lasting errors, but I prefer to have the students produce an almost entirely independently produced piece each session.

Extremely patient, cool tutor wanting to help you

Extremely patient, but organized. Teach students how to be organized, how to properly prepare for tests and to be able to recall information when needed.
Seven years of experience as a case manager with Healthy Families, where we helped teach families for to be better parents and to become self-sufficient. Besides being extremely organized, I am very patient and try to reach everyone on whatever level they are currently on. I don't just shove a bunch of information at you and hope you get it. Instead, I build on what strengths you already have, and show you how to use your unique, individual learning style when I am tutoring you. My strengths have always been writing, spelling, and all things related to Language Arts/English Comp. Also, I have always been pretty successful at test taking and study techniques.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently completing my internship for my Music Education degree from the University of North Florida. I am specializing in teaching elementary age students and I have already completed two pre-internships for my degree in elementary schools. During my degree I had the opportunity to tutor elementary students in reading at Woodland Acres Elementary. I conducted my two pre-internships at Joseph Finnegan and John E. Ford elementary schools. I worked as a substitute teacher in Duval county for the springs semester of 2008. I have experience in low-income schools and I have seen the need these students have for extra attention.
I believe in making learning fun. Young students need to be constantly engaged during the leaning process. All children have the capacity for success and as a teacher its my job to give them the scaffolding they need to achieve it. If a student star ... read more

There are many ways to teach a variety of subjects but connecting the subject with the students life - connected learning is supported by Mary Belenky et al in her book, "Women's Ways Of Knowing." Mary was my professor at Goddard and I have found connecting learning with life experience has been an effective way to get students to understand the subject.Even Frank McCort (Angela's Ashes) describes this technique he used succesfully in his teaching.

After working in the field of business for a number of years, I chose teaching as a second career because I wanted to help children reach their fullest potential. I earned a BA in Education in 2006 and taught elementary school for two years, after which, financial obligations required me to return to Corporate America. My passion, however, is working with children and helping them strive to achieve their goals. I have participated in mentoring programs over the last five years and am a mother myself. Helping children succeed is something I’ve found very rewarding and a feeling that is irreplaceable.
I believe the importance of a good education is not primarily mastery of a particular subject area, but is preparing students to seek out knowledge about anything they will encounter throughout their lives. A strong and effective teacher is one who will act as a guide and facilitato ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Children are the reason I find joy and passion in educating. I get overjoyed when children conquer a challenge or a stumbling block. I have worked with educating children for over six years in an accredited child care center. I have also prepared four-year-olds for kindergarten in the VPK program provided by the state. I have an open mind for all learning styles, i.e. visual, audio, and tactile, and can quickly explain information in a way that is easier for your child to learn. I believe all children are unique and learn at different rates and speeds. Every child deserves the right to a fair education where no child is left behind.
As an advocate in education, I am strongly for bettering the learning environment for each individual. I earned my Associate of Arts degree in Business Administration in 2008 and I am currently working on my Bachelors degree in Business Managemen ... read more

I have an intuitive grasp of what an instructor is trying to accomplish. As a result I know how to target the key concepts in a way that combines the key ideas with peripheral ideas to produce not only a better grade, but a better understanding of the material. As a father I know children are quick learners and absorb information very readily but only when it suits them. Therefore I tailor my approach to be as individualized as possible resulting in a one-on-one style that encourages and promotes success through learning.
