Teaching and coaching students to excel is a gift, and I was blessed with that gift. I believe in teaching students in the manner in which they learn--whether they are visual, auditory, or a combination of both. I believe in tailoring my teaching style to the particular style that is best suited for the individual student by trying different approaches until finding the approach that is successful. I believe this approach can be used in a classroom as well as in a one-on-one situation.
My experience working in a local high school--as the school bookkeeper, as a substitute teacher, and as the cheerleader coach has given me the skills I need to teach and tutor others. I'm known for my patience working with students with foreign-language backgrounds and other disabilities such as a lack of attention and focus. I learned from my professors at Swarthmore College (and a few at Penn) how to project a non-B.S. style, since kids tend to intuitively realize when their teacher has no idea what he/she is talking about.
