Graduating from Upstate was a wonderful experience. I was given the oppurtunity to study reading at great leangth. I worked with students that had many reading different reading diffuculties. Since graduating I have been substituting. This has given me a wide range of experience from K5 to 12th. I have learned even more since graduating about how different student learn things. Too often students look at teachers or adults as enemies, and I try to take a very laid-back, conversational approach when tutoring. My teaching style I would describe two-fold: First, my military background taught me their three step process; tell them what you are going to tell them, tell them, and then tell them what you told them and my own personal style which is a hybrid of the discovery method and guided question and answer.
