College Student - Eager to Gain Experience!

I have an incredible passion for teaching. I am currently in the process of getting my Bachelors in Secondary Education with a focus in English. I have knowledge of the structure and content of the English language and thoroughly enjoy teaching others composition, spelling, creative writing, reading, vocabulary, etc. I do not have much experience yet in a classroom setting but have volunteered at a middle school while getting my Associates degree. I helped a teacher at a middle school to teach students that were having difficulty in various subjects.
I am a hands on teacher, probably because I am a hands on learner. I find it difficult to learn when an instructor is solely lecturing. I believe that constant practice and hands on lessons are the most effective ways of learning.

I have always enjoyed tutoring students and seeing them "get" the subjects we are touching on. The look on their face during this moment is priceless. I fully understand that everyone learns things in different ways. While one student may be able to memorize and understand facts one way, say by repetition, another student may learn the information by understanding the background and context that it comes from. I am very patient and flexible with students and realize that if they do not understand the material that it is not their fault, but rather I need to try a different approach with them. I have seen the value of repetition in teaching children (multiplication tables, for example), but I also realize that fresh ideas are necessary in order to keep students interested. I believe that I have the patience necessary to be able to deal with each student according to his attention-span and abilities to comprehend the material. I earned my BA in PR and Journalism. My course of study required me to be able to write and spell correctly, as well as being able to form grammatically correct sentences. During and after college, I held jobs that required me to write articles, media releases, do research, and serve as a media rep for a large corporation.
