Though I have only been teaching with the schools since 2011, I have been teaching on-and-off since 1985. I am a certified Martial Arts instructor and have taken my teaching methods from this, my military time, and even my life experiences. I believe that whatever we are learning that the classroom environment needs to stay fun and flowing smoothly. I believe that hands-on is better than reading the steps in a book and following just them. With doing that, the student learns only what is there and ends up stuck in a box. I have spent the last five years attaining my BS in Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho. Throughout those four years I have had several opportunities to help out by mentoring young students. A student isn’t likely to care about work in a class where they feel the teacher hates them, or where the teacher is too easy or difficult. It’s very important for me, as the teacher, to get to know each and every one of my students so I can do the best to make them feel comfortable and important in the classroom. I started as an Adjunct Instructor at ISU for the Geomatics Engineering program for the 2007-2008 school year. Prepare for class setup the curriculum, homework, grading and test for 10-12 students. I went to ITT Technical Institute following that and was offered to Chair School of Drafting & Design. I taught and ran the department for 2 years. I was in charge of 4-10 teachers and 170+ students. I believe in identifying the learning style of the student which can take some time with some. Are they a visual learner I draw pictures, maps, charts and video; if an audio learner tapes, lecture, youtube, video, etc,.. and if a kinesthetic learner then they need the hands on experience to develop the learning that is needed, so then standing back to guide the thought process without doing it for them.
