As a teacher, I believe my greatest success comes, not when I set goals for my students and push them towards MY goals, but when I simply facilitate my students pursuit of his/her own personal goals. In my first lesson, I always ask my student what he/she wants to accomplish and work together with them to set short and long term goals that will allow them to pursue learning they way THEY want to. Patients is a amazing thing to have when trying to teach. Many students learn at a different pace and I feel that finding that pace for every student is important. If you try to cram or learn something to quickly it only become heartache and bad grades.
In College I would form groups to try and study for upcoming test or exams. Doing this it really helped me to learn what I was studying and how other people learn as well.

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy working with all learners - no matter the age, child or adult. I enjoy the challenge it brings of figuring out what teaching method works for each individual. In my experience, it takes ingenious and quick thinking to activate the learning potential for some learners. I believe that switching the types of teaching is effective to continue interest on behalf of the learner. In a math example, it is helpful to not work on problems for the entire time. Discovery using hands on concrete examples is often a "fun" and effective break. My desire is for students to learn more than they thought possible.
