A Little Bit About Me...

In my classroom experience, I have developed a process of instruction followed by in-class practice that effectivly leads to individual learning. As an instuctor in a one on one situation I have found it best to deal with the deficiencies of learning and reinforce the material the student knows. I have always found that students learn best when they feel they already have a grasp of the subject. I feel I can positivly influence the confidence in students that will engage them in learning.
I have taught Science curriculum for thirty years. The subjects I have taught include Physical Science, Life Science, Earth Science, Zoology, Biology, Chemistry and AP Chemistry. I have a passion and talent in teaching Chemistry with many short and usefull tricks to learning the material. I have had great success with the students that have taken the AP Chemistry test.

I enjoy working with all learners - no matter the age, child or adult. I enjoy the challenge it brings of figuring out what teaching method works for each individual. In my experience, it takes ingenious and quick thinking to activate the learning potential for some learners. I believe that switching the types of teaching is effective to continue interest on behalf of the learner. In a math example, it is helpful to not work on problems for the entire time. Discovery using hands on concrete examples is often a "fun" and effective break. My desire is for students to learn more than they thought possible.

Scaffolding and positive reinforcement describes my teaching style; combined with a healthy dose of humor and individual, associative modeling. Learning should be fun and challenging. Busy work doesn't have to take such a negative connotation.
