Eventually I graduated and worked in elementary education as a teacher. I chose to continue my education and become an engineer. After graduating college, I served in the US Army for six years as a Chemical Defense Officer. My primary duty was to ensure that all 17,000 soldiers in the 1st Cavalry Division were trained and equipped to properly deal with chemical and biological hazards. To effectively and efficiently complete this duty, I was constantly teaching, coaching and mentoring both fellow officers as well as enlisted soldiers. I served in this role here in the states as well as on (2) 14-month deployments to Iraq. I currently teach four math classes at Everitt Middle School.

Children are individuals and you must find their style of learning and be able to adapt your teaching style for that child. I believe that you must geniunely love children and teaching to be able to reach children. They can sense when someone really cares. I taught preschool for 5 years and had a home day care center for 4 years. After finishing undergraduate courses, I worked for a program that sent college students out to public schools to be Teacher's Aids. We were expected to help any students who were falling behind in a subject. The experience was so rewarding that after graduation, I took a position working with troubled students convicted of sexual assault, teaching them math and science for six months. A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is very simple, but is one that took a long time to learn. In college you are taught everything but HOW to teach. I learned the HOW by watching my teachers and having some very good mentors. I began to ask myself, " why do I learn more from this instructor than that instructor?" No matter what the subject is, you have to learn 2 things to reach the student. One, how does this student learn. Two, you can't force the information. I feel that a student learns more and shows more excitement when they are allowed to find answers on their own. This also takes building a relationship with the student.

As a graduate of a private college, I have always been driven to perform at the top of my game. I have received two Bachelors degrees in both English literature and theater. Early in my collegiate career I gained a position as a teaching assistant (TA) and taught a required first year course for 3 out of my 4 years of college.
