I truly believe that as an educator you must establish a connection with your students. As an educator, I have had many opportunities to work with various different students. I have earned a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education with a minor in Special Education and a master's degree in teaching with an emphasis in learning disabilities. As a Michigan State graduate, I am still very passionate about education, and believe that learning does not stop when you leave the classroom. I have earned a bachelors degree in Dietetics, which included a rigorous science and research based curriculum, as well as ways to improve teaching and counseling techniques. As I mentioned, I have 3 younger siblings-I've been helping with homework forever, and I understand the frustrations that naturally occur when concepts seem elusive. Additionally, I am completely aware that I'm not perfect; I've taken a lot of upper level, difficult courses, and know what it's like to have trouble, sometimes with the easiest concepts. However, consistent interactions with a teacher helped me to find success in so many gruesome classes (Advanced Computational Biology, anyone?). Most importantly, I know from my own experiences that there can be such a small difference between failing and excelling in class, and that anyone is capable of finding success with the confidence boost that just a little extra attention brings.
