I took every math course offered by a 4 year college, student taught for one 6 week session, and took some educational courses. After home educating my 4 children for 17 years, I returned to school to complete an AA degree in liberal arts and a BA degree in sociology. I now work as a math teacher working with children who range in age from 9-17 and have special needs.
I never give up on a child or an adult. I recently tutored a law enforcement official to help him understand and pass algebra. He didn't think anyone could help him. I have had the experience of being taught by wonderful, kind, caring, and patient teachers. I have also experienced the teachers who are harsh, impatient, and ridiculing. Through these experiences, I realized that I learned much more through the teachers who were patient and caring. The teacher makes all the difference. I don't just want to regurgitate information to a student; I want them to learn. I allow them to try to complete and assignment, and if they ask questions, I think of the child's learning style. How they learn affects how I explain it to them or how I show them. If they are having trouble understanding, i will model their question and answer it correctly. I will ten ask them the differences between the two. I am very patient, easygoing, and I give praise often.
I graduated with my BS in CSD and am now going for my Master's. I have worked with children of all ages specifically in literacy, writing, and speech. I am comfortable teaching up to and including Algebra,any history, and elementary school science.

I like to encourage and support my students. Many students don’t want to learn or do not feel they can succeed. When a student is positive and feels that sense of pride; he will open himself up more to the idea of learning. Secondly, I will always do readings and visuals to stimulate both areas of the brain to ensure it is absorbed. I also believe in repetition of information once a student comprehends what has been learned. Lastly, I like to be consistent. I have always kept the learning styles very similar. I did not graduate from high school but I knew I had to and could put myself through college. It was during this time in my life that I began to appreciate the importance of education. It was after this time that my past situation aided me in landing my first job in education. I was offered a position to teach non-traditional high school students who were just like I used to be.
