My comments on tutoring Special Education : I have a minor in Special education.

I learn visually and by reading the subject materials. I teach by showing students what they need to know by reading and using visual aids in my teaching style. I incorporate technology in my teaching because some students are hands on. I teach students in groups and individually.
I will be graduating from the University of Dayton with a Master's of Education degreee and I have a Bachelor’s degree in History. I love History and want to teach Social Studies in grades 4th-9th. I want to make a difference in the lives of people. I have been a substitute teacher for grades K-12 and have worked in special education classrooms. I want to help children and adults learn and be the best they can be. I have worked with students and adults with special needs, emotional needs, and educational issues.

I take the necessary time to learn the behavior and learning ability of the child in order to customize a teaching style that will be most beneficial. I believe that the most effective type of relationship between a teacher and a student is friendship to reduce any anxieties that may otherwise hinder the child’s progress. I am calm, well mannered, kind and devoted to the success of others. Teachers should be firm but not intimidating to the child. The learning environment should be safe, stress free and comfortable and above all positive. I have a strong belief that since children will be leading future generations then they need the proper skills to be able to solve tomorrow’s problems.
Throughout my high school career I have been devoted to academic success of my fellow classmates as well as my self. I continued this attitude in the accomplishment of achieving a BS degree in biol ... read more

I have spent 4 years as a Spanish teacher and the past two years as a substitute teacher while working on my master's degree in Special Education. I have had many experiences with many different levels of learners both as a Spanish teacher and as a sub. Subbing has given me the opportunity to work with kids K-12 in a variety of different learning levels and subject areas. I try to get most of my sub days in special education classrooms to ready myself for my upcoming start to a new career. Focusing more on special education has allowed me to work more closely one on one with students much is the way of tutoring.
2 years ago when I quit teaching Spanish I thought I did not want to teach again, but when I was called upon to do a semester long subbing stint in a high school Emotionally Disturbed unit, all my original feelings for teaching came back. I love teaching and I love ki ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

My teaching style is best described as eclectic. While I am always organized and focused, I vary my instructional methodologies to incorporate diverse activities and material to engage and interest students. By understanding human behavior and acknowledging the many different learning styles of students, I easily establish and maintain an excellent rapport with students and co-workers alike. As a result, there is a strong level of trust that develops which allows me to provide direction in working toward realizing shared goals and objectives.
In my classroom, students must commit to a level of performance that challenges them to reach their full potential. My expectations for my students are high, and by the end of the school year students realize they can achieve any goal set before them. This is a valuable lesson that they can apply to their lives beyond the classroom.

I have a passion for education and helping others. I also love math and problem solving. I have earned my BS in Business with a major in MIS, and have completed many extra math classes. I tutored all through college when I went (at the high school and college level). I have enjoyed teaching my daughter and others her age (elementary level), and have learned a lot about learning styles. Education is extremely important to me, and I would really like to help others in this area.
The most important thing to me in teaching anyone anything is finding out what level they are currently at. In order to learn something, take something in and understand it, one must have something already to attach it to in their minds. I like to adapt my teaching to the personality and learning style of whoever I am teaching, and think that a big part of teaching is help and encouragement. I have a ... read more

To be honest I worked as a Substitute because I was Laid off from my job. But when I started teaching I found it was very difficult to keep control of the class and to get the students to do their work. I thought I couldn't do this anymore. I didn't quit and things did get better. I learned that most of these children were from single parent homes, and were living below the poverty level. They were scared, hungrey and tired at times, and I new I had to adjust for me to be of any help, and I did. I believe it takes parents, teachers and students all wanting to work together to be successful. I feel I'm a very patient and caring individual and want my students to succeed.

I enjoy teaching and working with students of all ages. I believe that all students have the ability to create master pieces in art if they put forth the time and effort and have the right encouragement. I have seen too many times that students may feel that they can't draw or that they aren't creative. I try to encourage students that art is a process and they will grow with practice and time, just as in any academic area. I show students that progress is always aparent in the evolution of artwork.
As a fine artist and educator, I have many years experience teaching students in a variety of settings and with varying age groups. I have worked as a long-term substitute teacher for art at Northmont Middle School teaching students how to create various art projects. My teaching style is customized to each student's needs. Because all students have different learning styles my instructions are patterned to maximize that student's particular style. After evaluating each student with a baseline test, goals and objectives based on the state's/district's curriculum are determined. My style is setting high but realistic expectations with rigorous assignments. I also try to have an overdose of encouragement and make the learning session fun time for students.
Teaching has been my last career change. My prior experience has been in the field of manufacturing, maintenance engineering services and construction management.
