Math and Physics tutor

I have just finished junior year of high school and will be a senior this fall. Throughout my life I have always been especially good at math. I never fail to get an A in math every year. In 10th grade I decided to skip Pre-Calculus from Algebra 2 to AP Calculus BC when I enter 11th grade. Interestingly, I still found AP Calculus BC to be relatively easy. I am the vice president of a tutor club at La Costa Canyon High School. I teach students after school all subjects. I also tutored students outside of school. During my junior year I tutored a girl in Pre-Algebra who did not understand how graphs work. I also tutored a high-schooler in Pre-Calculus two weeks ago who had a final in two days. I came to his house and tutored him for a total of 15 hours (he needed lots of help) in those two days.
Very patient. Usually I will explain the concept, present a practice problem, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I adapt my teaching to the students' learning style.
I have been tutoring math and science since I was a sophomore in high school. I thoroughly enjoy seeing my students succeed in both their academic and personal lives. I was an AVID tutor for three years, the most requested math tutor at Mount San Jacinto College for five years and a private tutor all that time.

My comments on tutoring SAT - Math : I am not experienced in tutoring SAT math, however with my skills I feel very confident in tutoring this subject.

I just recently graduated California State University with a degree in Liberal Studies. Within this degree I chose to emphasize on mathematics because I want to become a high school math teacher. I have taken every course from Algebra-Intermediate Calculus. I am highly experienced in Algebra 1 and Geometry. I have been working at a probation school for a year and a half with at risk middle school and high school students. One of my many obligations is to help my students in math. I mainly tutor my students in Algebra 1 and Geometry.
I feel that positive reinforcement and patience are two very valuable traits when it comes to teaching. I work hard to ensure that I demonstrate these traits when working with my students.

Learning can be fun!!

I love learning and teaching alike. My first teaching experience was in high school when I helped teach inner city children how to swim. Following high school, I earned a bachelor's degree in genetics at UC Berkeley, during which time I worked as a teacher's assistant for a genetics professor. While in medical school in Hungary, I tutored Hungarians in English, and medical students in anatomy, physiology, biochemistry and biophysics. I completed internship and residency in Internal Medicine in the United States. As a senior resident I was responsible for teaching and supervising junior residents and interns. Although I currently work as a freelance science writer, my love of teaching has led me to continue tutoring (mainly math to middle and high school students) over the years.
When tutoring, I strive to make lessons engaging, effective and enjoyable. Specifically, I tailor ... read more

I first find out your true objective for learning the material. Is it a requirement and not in your field of study so you just want to pass the class or is this a part of your passion or career and really want to know the nuts and bolts of the subject. I will adjust accordingly and make out a plan. I will also figure out the best way to teach you the material and from there we will have a plan to accomplish the targeted goal.
I have a lot of experience not only in fields that you may need help learning, but I also spent time during college tutoring classmates as I was in the class and developed a style to help students learn quickly and also reinforce the concepts. I understand the student to determine the best learning style for you and I make the transformation teaching you the material in an effective manner.

I am a recent graduate of California State University San Marcos. I earned a BS in Mathematics and graduated cum laude. During the last two years of my education I was tutoring at the Math Lab at Cal State San Marcos which led me to become certified as a Level 3 CRLA tutor. Also for the last two years, I had been working for a professor grading papers and helping out in the classroom. Since I have been working with a wide variety of students, I am now more aware of different learning skills and can accommodate more students.
I love being able to share my knowledge, especially with students who are still in high school. I have learned how to explain math using pictures, words, examples, songs, and many other ways. All students are able to learn, but the process is different for each individual. Once I find out how a student learns best, I am able to create an environment wher ... read more

I try to create a comfortable learning environment to promote better understanding and confidence. I am also sure to maintain a level of respect and good classroom control. I like to modify my lessons according to each classes' individual interests and learning styles. I enjoy presenting innovative cultural aspects and alternate thinking activities. I try to be more of a facilitator than an instructor. We incorporate many different areas to promote better learning, e.g. music, movies, debates, posters, food festivals, etc. I am very sensitive to cultural/diversity differences. I am patient and understanding. I learn just as much from the students as they do from me.
During my undergraduate studies, I worked as a teaching assistant for Descriptive Phonetics. I was required to facilitate labs, grade work and input grades into spreadsheet, along with holding study sessions. Also, ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching is a great way to educate and to learn. As a tutor, first, I see the student’s understanding level. I plan ahead of time and prepare proper material. However, if the material is provided, I find effective methods of teaching, and teach each student accordingly. It’s obvious that some techniques work better for some students but not others. Therefor, I choose a good teaching method, and assist students to learn the material better, faster and easier.
As a recent graduate of San Diego State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and minor in Psychology, I have taken many classes in biology, physics, algebra, psychology, chemistry as well as organic chemistry. I am eclectic in my approaches towards teaching, ranging from Montessori and Classroom Without Walls, to Behaviorist and Cognitive approaches. I use what is observable, measurable, and works. I am always prepared to pull a rabbit out of my hat, and I always prepare additional alternative lesson plans in case an approach does not seem doable. I begin tutor sessions with interviews to assess goals. The ultimate goal is always for the tutee to become an independent learner.
Tutoring is a profession which I have enjoyed for over nine years, often while teaching in the classroom or online, concurrently. I was able to teach multi-subjects to college students because I excelled in all subjects myself, receiving numerous scholarship awards and honors. I chose after school tutoring as my extra duty assignment while teaching middle school and high school. I enjoy tutoring students because I ... read more
