One of my favorite feelings is that moment when a student finally grasps an elusive concept. That's why I love tutoring. Giving students that one-on-one attention, observing their stumbling blocks, and working to get past them is the best way to help students learn. I can't count the number of times I've had students tell me "Oh, that makes so much sense now!" and it's beca ... read more

My comments on tutoring College Algebra : I am teaching college algebra at a local college. I am certified to teach math at the high school level in the state of Ohio.

I stated my career as a 7th and 8th grade math teacher in Oberlin Ohio. I taught two years at Beachwood High School, teaching algebra, geometry, physics and calculus. I went back to school to receive my masters in accounting. I work for a large public accounting firm and received by CPA license. From public accounting I started my internal audit career. I love mathematics, I am not going to deny it. I find it to be one of the most thrilling subjects out there. I can understand why so many people dislike it. My job will be not to make you like it but to help you appreciate it and not take it for granted. I am a very patient person with many helpful tips, books and mnemonics to help others to understand. I want to show people that math geeks are people to who want to see the best in everyone, numerically.

20 Year EE Engineer and teacher available

I try to remember that many students learn best with hands on experience. I also try to relate some of the theoretical concepts to real applications. (I like to answer the ? who cares about that!) I teach best, I think, by walking thru a lab as students work on lab assignments. I offer issues about the lab, offer suggestions about how to complete the lab, or asking students questions.
Graduated from Cornell University with a Master's. Have been working as an engineer for over 20 years. My comments on tutoring College Algebra : I have taught College Algebra to students at National College and Remington College. I wrote an interactive math software program to teach college algebra and it has been puchased by several colleges.

Punctual - prepared and professional. I look at learning rep. styles of students (pictorial, word or kinesthehic). I try to make the learning experience as painless as possible (especially math). I start with pre-tests to gauge where a student is at, then follow-up with teaching content and finish with a post-test to gauge learing objectives that have been met. Depending on the subject, I like to schedule 2-2.5 hrs ateach session. I also like to work out problems for students and e-mail them the results, where applicable.

College Algebra is one of my top subjects! I have tutored many college students for algebra. My most recent student struggled heavily in math courses, but through a combination of his hard work and my tutoring, he was able to raise his grade in the course from an F to a B+ by the end of the semester!

My tutoring style is very interactive and involves the use of self-made PowerPoint presentations that break-down difficult concepts into easy-to-understand principles, as well as practice problems to improve your understanding of the subject. I have more than four years of tutoring experience, and my students have seen great results by using these methods. As an experienced tutor, I understand that students have different learning styles, and I adapt my teaching in a way that best enhances your learning. I am available most weeknights and weekends for tutoring. I look forward to working with you, and I promise that you will not be disappointed!

A Little Bit About Me...

I have been tutoring in math for friends and their children for the past 20 years. I have taught Sunday school and youth groups for 15 years. As a quality professional I have also developed training programs and conducted individual and group training for over 20 years.
My teaching style varies depending on the area of math being taught. For individualized instruction I mainly use a questioning process to lead individual students to discover how to process the math problems. This has them involved with building the solutions to the various problems and helps reinforce what they already know. I then instruct on the areas they do not understand or struggle getting this helps focus my efforts on their needs. This method also helps students close the knowledge gaps and understand where they need to work the most. I also like to work through some of these same areas with the parents w ... read more
