Early Childhood Educator and Encourager

I believe that learners are most successful when they are confident in their abilities. I generally begin by assessing a child's present independent functioning level and slowly building on that. Nothing is more motivating than intrinsic rewards, so I strive to make the learner aware of their growth. I encourage them to celebrate every break through and to minimize the importance of errors. I stress that errors are simply stepping stones to the next level of competence.
I have over thirty years teaching experience in the Chicago Public Schools. I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in psychology, a Master of Arts degree in special education, and a Master of Divinity degree. I have taught children ages 3 - 15 and tutored youth up to age 18. I am particularly skilled at helping young children develop readiness skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently an intervention specialist for students in grades 5-8, specializing in reading content and reading strategies. Last year, I taught students in the fifth grade, focusing in the scholastic areas of mathematics, reading, language arts, science and social studies.I was assisting students in an inclusion setting with some pull out resource room interventions. This past summer, I was excited about the opportunity I have been given to expand my teaching experiences through working with students with learning, behavioral, and emotional disorders. A Little Bit About Me...

I have been teaching for 29 years. I have a Master's in Education and I am currently finishing my Speech degree. I have taught preschool special education, deaf education/hearing impairment K-5th grade and K/first grade. My passion is reading and literacy skills which I implement with my school age children with hearing impairment. I am licensed in prek/K-12 special ed, prek- 8th grade, reading and hearing impairment. My speech and language license is pending. I believe that all children are unique and gifted in some way. I truly prefer to work with them one-on-one.
