A Little Bit About Me...

I am currently an intervention specialist for students in grades 5-8, specializing in reading content and reading strategies. Last year, I taught students in the fifth grade, focusing in the scholastic areas of mathematics, reading, language arts, science and social studies.I was assisting students in an inclusion setting with some pull out resource room interventions. This past summer, I was excited about the opportunity I have been given to expand my teaching experiences through working with students with learning, behavioral, and emotional disorders. I am currently pursuing my BS degree in business management and finance. I have completed all of my math requirements and passed calculus with an "A" average. I home school my 9 year old daughter and really enjoy watching her learn and grow.
I can teach many different styles to suit different learning styles. I truly believe in the mastery technique. My 9 year old has ADD and severe dyslexia so i have to employ many different styles to meet her needs. Being a great teacher is all about knowing and understanding your student and how they learn.

My teaching style changes to fit the requirements of the subject and the needs of my students. I find that presenting and explaining works best for language arts and history, concept teaching works best for science, and direct instruction works best for mathematics. I also take into account the learning preferences of my students: left or right brained, visual, spatial, or kinesthetic because each prefers different treatment. I believe that all children are unique and gifted in some way. I truly prefer to work with them one-on-one.
