Elementary Special Education Teacher

My teaching style is student centered. I try to figure out what work best for each student and go from there. If a student has a learning stye that is very hands on then I will try to make sure a portion of my lesson is tactile. It is not always easy but I strive to differentiate to meet all of my students' learning needs..
I have been teaching students with many different special needs for the past 19 years. My experience ranges from students with severe developmental delays to students with emotional disabilities. Let's make learning fun!!!

I like to do a lot of positive reinforcing and reaffirming.
I have worked with children for over 15 years. During this time I have provide homework help and tutoring in Math, Reading and Spanish. The children that I have worked with range in age from 5 to 17 years old. I have also done an extensive amount of work with infants and toddlers in the field of early learning as a nanny. My experience in working with children of so many ages has helped me to know what steps to implement in order to make children feel comfortable and confident while addressing challenges to learning materials. I have always enjoyed math and reading as a student and spent a short period of time studying Spanish abroad. My comments on tutoring Elementary Phonics : I have taught elementary phonics for thirty years in various grades from Kindergarten to sixth grade.

I use a combination of both online games and Websites and hands-on manipulatives. First, I like for the student to take multiple intelligence tests and then I know how best to help the student. The information I gain from the analysis is extremely informative. It tells me where the students' strengths lie such as some students are musically inclined, some are visual learners, auditory learners, some are mathematicians and various other styles. Then, the style that they learn through the best is how I would teach the student; this is based on Gardner's Multiple Intelligence. Second, meeting the standards are essential in today's education system. The four C's of the 21st century is also necessary for students' to learn.
