I am firm but like to use students life experiences and hobbies to teach them subjects. Younger students I like to teach through play due to the fact that I am a firm believer that children learn through play.
I have been studying education since my high school graduation in hopes of one day being the choir director at my high school.At the moment I am a student at UTEP studying bilingual elementary education and plan to receive a masters in music education after receiving my bachelors degree. I am currently a subsitute teacher and am hoping to continue helping students with their studies in the summer and weekends. The subjects I have taught are Health, Texas History, Basic Science, American History, Spanish 1-3, World Geography, Biology, Language Arts including writing, spelling and grammar. Even though these subject are outside of my major, I took the time to prepare. We also know that teaching a subject helps us learn it better. I have at least three years experience teaching each of the named subjects or more. I have coached Volleyball, Basketball, Track successfully and would be willing to personally coach a budding athlete. My best experiences have been with ages 12 - 14.

I am able to take students at their present levels of cognitive ability and help them to progress and also reinforce concepts that the students might have missed and need to master for complete understanding. I thoroughly enjoy tutoring children on a one-to-one basis because I beleive that students progress more if they get individual attention. I get to see the students' faces light up when they "get it" and knowing that I have made some impact in their lives is very rewarding.
I have an MA in history as well as a BA in antropology from New Mexico State University and graduated with honors.
