I have 30 + years of experience with composition - legal writing, high school and college composition, MLA and APA formatting, legal citations, and the elements of creative writing. I recently received an M.Ed. and Literacy Certificate from my alma mater, Regis University, and I am eager to share all of the knowledge and experience I have gained with your students. I absolutely love working with kids. I believe it is very important for a tutor not to simply tell a student how to do things, but to show them and then through questions and developing a consistent road map make them come up with the answer themselves. There is a huge difference between pretending to know how to do something and actually knowing. If the child understands through consistent questions and problem solving he/she will develope good habits throughout their school careers. As a graduate student, I worked as a tutor in the campus Writing Center. Later, just before graduating, I taught Writing, ESL and GED at the Denver County Jail. Since completing my degree, I became a Writing and Critical Thinking Professor for two separate Universities (Metro State College and Devry University), where I've been for almost nine years. I think learning should be fun. If a student doesn't enjoy what she is doing, she won't likely attain mastery of the discipline.
