A Little Bit About Me...

I am an active teacher. I want students to understand the subject in the context of their own lives as opposed to just learning definitions. If they can realate the information to an actual happening, they are more likely to remember. In terms of test preparation, aside from learning the information it is important to work on test-taking skills (relaxation, focus, etc.). Being prepared for such large tests is more than just knowing, it is recalling under pressure. I work with all of that to help the student.
I taught middle school and high school Language and Literature for two years at a private school. During that time I also tutored in the subjects of history, math, and science. I am currently working on my Masters degree in Education and have had refresher courses in the areas of study outside of my initial degree. I have been involved every year since 1975 in the work of an educator, mostly for pay, but occasionally as a volunteer, either community- or faith-based, in three states and two foreign countries. Leadership was usually demonstrated in teaching for proprietory institutions in curriculum development and in the processes of actual recruitment. In fifth-grade teaching of English language learners, my class for two semesters won the highest attendance record for 3rd-5th graders in the Los Angeles Unified School District.
Each time I have taught a different age-level I have sought to accommodate myself to the learning style of that particular level, whether psychokinetic for kindergarten and preschool, audio-visual for lower elementary, or verbal-phonemic for upper-level students and adults.
