A Little Bit About Me...

I earned my A.A. in Theatre Arts at College of Central Florida in Ocala, Florida. I then moved to Lakeland and earned my B.A. in Theatre Performance at Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Florida. Last summer I was an assistant teacher for the summer camp at the Civic Theatre in Ocala, Florida.
I teach the basic concepts of acting through Stanislavski and Chekhov. I focus on character development as well as scene analysis. When analyzing a play or story, I focus on the basic concepts such as inciting incidents, major dramatic question, climax, the point of attack, resolution, the theme, and characters. I work with the student so he/she can find these elements and talk about them and expound on them. I work as fast or as slow as the student needs.

More About This Tutor...

As a teenager, I learned the importance of having role models, both in and out of the classroom. Some of my biggest influences are old teachers and coaches. After I graduated high school, I attended the University of Florida, where I majored in Telecommunications, and had an outside study in English. This led me to substitute in Marion County for a year. After one year of subbing, I decided I wanted to enrich the lives of adolescents full-time. I became a teacher at my former high school, Vanguard, where I stayed for two years. I taught twelfth grade English, and then turned to teaching Intensive Reading to sophomores.
Enriching the lives of today’s youth is something very dear to my heart. With the hustle and bustle of our fast-paced world, it gets hard for them to find out who they are, and focus on what they need to be doing. I feel they push their education to the side, because ... read more

I am currently taking Medical Coding and Billing classes on-line. I have over 15 years experience working with children in all settings (mental health, teaching, tutoring, volunteering etc.).
It truly does take a village to raise a child as the saying goes. I have been able to make many positive differences in many childrens lives by tutoring, volulnteering and working with them. I really enjoy working with youth and helping them learn. I have faith that all children can flourish given the proper chances. I believe in making learning enjoyable, which is why my teaching style is based on mutual respect. I am patient, laid back, and I employ a rewards-based learning system. I’ve found that it is most helpful to relate subject material to the child’s interests, and so I do that often. I am always available to help, even through phone and email. I strive to make a positive difference in the world, and once I am committed to something, I give myself wholeheartedly.

I am well taught and experienced in Differentiated Instruction. All students learn through different levels and methods. Not all students respond to lecture and "do as I do." It is up to each teacher to find that special way each student learns. Some students are visual learnes and others are auditory learnes. Then you have the students who have to put their hands on everything and in everything to learn. Praise is also key to production. All things must be praised and ackowledge in the learning process. What may seem small is usually big to the student. Positive reinforcement is also a high priority in my teaching style. There should always be open communication and a chance for the student to show what they learned.
I earned my BA in 1989 in Texas. I moved to Florida in 1990 and realized I wanted to be a teacher. My local community college, however, did not offer any ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

As a lifelong learner, I value education highly and aspire to help others do the same. I have been tutoring students in Math since graduating from college over 20 years ago. I've found that many students don't succeed at math, not because they are "dumb" or lazy, but because they are either intimidated or just not interested. I have developed solutions to both problems. I encourage students to confront their feelings of intimidation. Don't be afraid of the "X". Don't fear the unknown. Math is a method of using what is known to find out what is unknown. I strive to make lessons relevant to their lives. If students believe they may actually USE math skills they are motivated to develop those skills.
I love math and I love teaching. The primary aspects of my teaching style are patience, and respect for the child as an individual. Both are important because all children c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I believe that the curriculum should be tailored to the learning style of the child and not the other way around. Learning especially reading is a slow process where small steps towards the final goal count more than big leaps which are not lasting. Students can guide a teacher towards their ability and it is our job as teachers to pickup on that and use it to the child's advantage. I would like to provide the best possible solution for each child and not force the child to struggle with something he or she doesn't understand. Seeing the progress in a child is very satisfying for me therefore that is my overall goal.
Worked for Lake County Schools as a substitute teacher for a year. Worked in classrooms from K to advanced level high school. I have also homeschooled my son for 5 years. I have experience with students with reading difficulty and tailoring learning to the child. Curre ... read more
