English Composition/Reading/Creative Writing Tutor

After receiving a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Georgia in 2000, I went on to study Poetry with renowned poets Bill Knott and John Skoyles at Emerson College in Boston, Massachusetts. Upon finishing my thesis I moved to Oklahoma to be close to my family, where I continued pursuing my literary interests by volunteering my services to read for international literary journal Nimrod, published out of the University of Tulsa. Currently, I read for Nimrod Magazine and tutor.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have developed a style of teaching that allows students to focus on their strengths and use them to incorporate different methods to overcoming their weaknesses. I believe that learning is best experienced in an environment where open discussion is welcome. My experience has taught me that students thrive more when engaged in conversation, critical thinking, and application of material rather than in a simple lecture format. Furthermore, I have found that students have a better chance of excelling when they find an application of a topic interesting and are allowed to focus on that topic. Therefore, rather than telling a student how to learn, I prefer to engage him or her and allow the student to aid in directing the sessions.
