After a few minutes, I ask them what they think is the best way to approach the problem. I was a hands on student that learned through images and repetition. I believe this is a good way to learn not memorize. If you memorize you will forget, and that is pointless in the long run.

I love opening students' eyes to the wonders of science. It is my experience that a student can learn anything, even the most complicated scientific theories, if the teacher is patient and engaging. In teaching, I find the key to unlocking the minds of the students is to find the appropriate analogy or metaphor. If a teacher can aptly relate a concept the student doesn’t understand to one that the student does understand, not only will the student learn the new concept, they will be far less likely to forget it in the future. I find this method to be effective in teaching concepts as complicated as quantum physics, and in teaching concepts as non-intuitive as learning how to play a drum roll.
