Let's start out by saying I am definitely not your average tutor! Fun is vital to motivation, and I live on the stuff! I have been teaching for over fifteen years in a variety of environments, working in inclusive environments with children aged birth to twelve. Since I have entered the teaching profession I have worked with children of all elementary levels. This experience has provided me with the tools to work with all types of children from grades K-5. Since I have graduated from IUP I have worked primarily in an urban setting which has afforded me the opportunity to work with children of various backgrounds from affluent to homeless. I have done various forms of tutoring in Reading and Math in preparation for the state administered tests.
My ability to break things down to a level where students can understand more thoroughly has always been a string point for me. I believe that much of the difficulty in learning Science is that people try to learn a series of facts rather than a story. It is difficult to do well when a student is dependent on his/her ability to recall from extensive facts where no understanding of the interrelationship is appreciated. I believe scientific conversation regarding seemingly complex subjects can serve to demystify the material. Humor often helps in this. I have worked extensively with students who know the material yet can’t test well for a variety of reasons.
I have an undergraduate degree (BS) in Biology and a graduate degree (PhD) in Physiology. I have experience as a Professor of Anatomy in Graduate Physical Therapy curriculum.
