My comments on tutoring Sculpting: Sculpting is a great medium in that it can be done in so many different ways: clay, paper-mache, found objects, recycled materials, wood. I have done several of my own sculptures in college and out, and teach children different sculpting projects throughout the year.

During the school year, I work as a curriculum coordinator and art teacher for an after school program in Lexington, Ma. This is my 6th year of teaching stimulating and unique art projects to children in grades K-5. I have interned as a graphic designer and also had jobs as a wedding photographer. During the summer, I work as an assistant director to a summer enrichment program in Winchester, Ma. Outside of work- I am a member at large of the Boston Guild of Puppeteers, and also work on my own art which includes building my portfolio of paintings to show and sell, as well as complete small digital photography jobs. I go as fast or as slow as the student needs. I encourage students to try new techniques and ideas so they are self-aware of the process and learning experience that leads to self-improvement and development.

I believe I have a natural ability to work with students of all ages. Tutoring and being able to help students understand certain topics is very rewarding for me. I truly enjoy doing helping others. My teaching style is somewhat laid-back, but students know that I expect them to learn to their fullest potential. I believe in using several learning styles in the classroom and being to identify which students require different ways of learning. If something doesn't work in the classroom, I will do what it takes to make each student understand. I began my tutoring experience in the fall of 2009 with a program called Breakthrough Manchester. It serves underprivileged students in the area who do not have the resources to succeed. They ranged from grade 5 to 8. With Breakthrough I worked one-on-one with students as well as in a classroom setting in which I conducted my own lessons. I h

Teacher of English as a Second Language – that was my initial BA. Being a native Russian speaker, I was able to understand nuances of learning and teaching foreign languages. After three years of experience as a school teacher I was awarded a Teacher of the Year scholarship. Then I began to practice personal tutoring. MA in Directing and Acting provided me with even deeper understanding of applied psychology. I worked as a professor and tutored both college and high school students. Plus, submission of research, professional reports and numerous articles gave me an insight into paper writing. My last ten years of tutoring include English as a Second Language, Business and Professional studies, and the arts. As a college student I was taught various pedagogical methods. Then being a professional teacher and tutor I developed my own personal style. My main believe as an educator is that ev

My experience as art instructor provides me the opportunity to witness the valuable role art plays within the lives of children and young adults. As art students gain confidence in their skills they gain confidence within themselves. My goal is to encourage students to express themselves creatively while generating a life-long enthusiasm for art. Each student is a valuable and unique individual, and my teaching style reflects this. As art instructor I am a valuable resource of technical skills. However, there is no "right" or "wrong" way to make art. I have set lesson plans and objectives-- but students are encouraged to create art according to their artistic vision. This gives students the ability to further pursue their artistic goals. Art and education has always played an integral part in my life, as witnessed by my college degree and professional career. I earned my degree in newspaper journalism at Syracuse University, one of the finest schools in the country for this program. Since that time, I have worked as a writer, editor, journalist and reporter for several major organizations, most recently as a content producer for Monster.com's Career Advice. This position involved working with freelance writers to mold their work into a better product. I believe that helping young people with their writing is essential to getting them to properly express themselves, as well as get them ready to compete in the world of work and school. I love working one-on-one with students and showing them how to improve their writing. I am a tough editor but believe that constant practice is the key to becoming an effective communicator.

As an early childhood teacher, I have had several opportunities to help children (school age), to do homework. I also was a tutor in high school to a boy for just Algebra, which then turned around to being all of his subjects and helping him keep on track. The hardest thing for me was that he had only lived in the U.S. for four years, and had trouble speaking English. After each session of tutoring, I would grab the Scrabble board, which encouraged him to use more words, learn new words, and have fun while doing so. I like to get to the point of certain problems, such as reading the child/student when I see them, ask them some questions about the subjects they need help in and why they need help. I have worked with Infants-School age for over 5 years, and enjoy being there to help someone in need. I believe in giving back, because so many of us are blessed already.

I find that my interactions with children, or even young adults, always involve establishing a personal, familiar connection on which we then build a relationship of mutual growth and education. I possess a calm, patient manner in conjunction with an impassioned enthusiasm for reading and writing. I believe that reading comprehension and writing competency are two of the hardest, as well as most important, skills that kids of this impending generation need to become passionate about. My best language arts teachers always made sure that students were invested in the material, and therefore my strategy with children definitely involves engaging their interests as well so that they learn naturally. As an English major, I have graduated with exceptionally strong skills in written and verbal communications, as well as an analytical mindset. I was in the teaching program at the Feinstein Schoo

As an aspiring teacher, my real passion lies in the art of reading and writing. I am eager to share my love for english with students. Tutoring is an exciting form of teaching in which I will be able to work one on one with students at all different levels, and truly see their improvement as time goes on. I believe that independent tutoring will undoubtedly benefit students at all learning levels. Molding my own instruction to the learning styles of each student will be the way I form my curriculum for them. Individualization is essential to the positive and effective learning environment I plan to create. Having recently earned my Bachelors of Arts Degree from Assumption College in Worcester, MA, I returned home to Rhode Island to pursue my certificate in Secondary Education. My teaching style is organically structured, with an emphasis on scaffolding prior knowledge to new concepts. Being sensitive to the diversity of learners, I customize my teaching style to fit each individual’s specific needs. I have high expectations for my students, however, I base my expectations on their ability levels; levels that I am constantly monitoring in order to determine whether I need to ramp up the level of instruction or make accommodations until the theory at hand is fully grasped. Not only do I emphasize the curriculum at hand, I also teach the student that proper organization and study skills can have significant impact on their overall academic success. After earning my B.F.A. from V.C.U. (magna cum laude) with double minors in art history and Italian, I moved to New York and worked in the creative, behind-the-scenes world of theatre and television. I enjoy working with kids of all ages very much. As my summer job, I teach children from ages 4 to 21 how to play tennis. This has helped make me the person I am today in many ways. I am very patient and easy going and I am considerate of others as well. I am confident in my abilities and I think I would be a great fit for you as a teacher, friend, or mentor.
