My old next door neighbors have two children. One is a boy in elementary and one is a girl in middle school. I tutored the boy in reading and writing. He was able to read his first book on his own after a few weeks with me. I had to tutor the girl in math. she was taking algebra and was having a tough time with it. In two weeks of many meetings, she was able to pass her final exam. No matter what grade I was in, I always enjoyed going down to the ESE room and helping the special kids. I did what ever I could to help.

A Little Bit About Me...

I recently moved to Florida after working in an urban school for 3 years. Prior to working in a school as a School Social Worker and Special Education Director I directed an afterschool program for juvenile boys on probation. I have had extensive experience with special education students. I have been trained to work with difficult students including behavioral modification. Previous work includeds School Social Worker, teacher assistant and tutor. I currently working part time as a Child and Family Therapist.
I believe that every child can learn. I love working with children and finding the style of learning that best fits them. I see learning difficulties instead as learning challenges that can be overcome. I take a creative, goal oriented approach and love to see students achieve their best.

A Little Bit About Me...

I am a retired classroom teacher from Michigan Public School Systems, with 30 plus years teaching experience. I have experience at all levels (7-12) of English, Speech Education, and Drama. I have also have two years experience in the areas of ESL/ELL with my previous school district. I have taught primarily at the high school level, and during that time, I taught 9th, 10th grade Language Arts, 9-12 Theatre, and 9-12 Speech classes. Since retiring, I worked with a local government grant program for youthful offenders, teaching GED classes and preparation for the FCAT exam. Reading and English were my focus.

"You can do it! We are going to figure this out and learn it." I am a motivator. Even at my age I can relate to even the youngest child and get them excited about learning. For me, the joys of life are found watching youngsters overcome barriers and begin to achieve.
An underlying emphasis of my career, either as a teacher, principal or superintendent, has been a focus on helping challenged students. Beyond several years teaching and serving as an administrator at many levels within the educational field, I have taught and tutored students both in the U.S. and China. Since retiring, I have mentored students with the emphasis on, again, helping challenged students achieve to their best capacity. Perhaps my greatest skills, other than motivating students, is to aid students in learning language, writing, and basic English skills.

A Little Bit About Me...

I try to present the information in an "entertaining way" and institute a great deal of student involvement. I have seen this approach work well with a number of students who were behind in my classes.
I have taught 6th grade reading for 2 years in a Lee County Middle School. I was given a "Programmed curriculum both of the years I was there. The first year I used the "Language" program and the second year I used the "Treasures" program . I also worked with residents of residential programs, while I was employed there as an officer assisting them in learning to read and write.

A Little Bit About Me...

Apart from baseball, my second love is education. I feel that every student has the ability to grasp a subject or a certain idea. It is all a matter of finding out how that student learns. My main style of teaching is threw the Socratic method of dialogue and real world examples. However, I am very open minded, patient, out going, and I am not satisfied with doing things one-way. There are many different ways to climb a mountain but it is important to know the most productive.
After graduating from Jacksonville University with a BS in Business Administration, I joined the field of professional baseball. I have been playing professionally in the Tampa Bay Rays’ organization for the past 5 seasons. During my off-seasons, I have been working for the Sarasota School Board as a preferred substitute mostly at Sarasota Middle School. I have taught in every subject at the middle sc ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I taught public school in Florida from K-12 for the last 16 years. I taught for more than 10 years in the private school. I am still teaching part-time at a private company. My passion for teaching and the diverse subjects and levels of students that I have taught are two of my great assets that can be very useful in the tutoring profession. I teach to help my student reach his or her highest potential.
Depending on the subject I use a highly academic and focussed style of teaching. If it is communication like English, Writing and Journalism , I use a lot of teacher-generated materials. I am very flexible and would like to meet the needs of a particular student by administering some kind of a skill inventory survey to identify his or her style of learning. An inventory of his interests and skills will also be a good tool for me to assess the student's strength ... read more

I possess a very eclectic and kinesthetic teaching style. I believe that children learn best when as many senses as possible are used in teaching them. When a child sees, hears, touches, smells, and sometimes tastes what they are learning, their brains are using multiple connections to hardwire whatever you are trying to teach them, therefore they will be more apt to remember than if taught by rote. I also believe that it's necessary to think about their physical, intellectual, emotional, and social well-being while they are learning. Children need to move. They will not retain as much information if they are not given breaks in routine at least every 15 to 20 minutes. Their intellect needs to be stimulated, they will not retain information they believe to be irrelevant. Therefore, it is our job as educators to show them how they can apply what they learn to their everyday environm ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

One of my gifts with working with children has always been the ability to relate well with them. I know what motivates children and have always shown patience and understanding. I have always tried to have children learn while having fun and try to give them multiple experiences because not all children learn in the same way.
I have my professional certification in Elementary K-6 and Physical Education K-12. I recently taught Kindergarten and I have more than 30 years experience working with children of all ages. I am currently enrolled at the State College of Florida to complete my AA in Liberal Arts. I have 62 credit hours and plan to graduate next semester. Education is important but so are real life skills and what happens outside of school. I am a licensed real estate sales person in Florida. I was also a human resource coordinator. During the course of my career I have had the opportunity to help others. Real life is what matters. Someone could be a 4.0 in college, but do they have what it takes to make it outside the classroom.
I would love to make a difference in a child's life. I feel I have a lot to offer with my continuing education, job skills and real life skills. The ability to motivate and empower others and really caring about people.

Teachers,as well as students, need to take responsibility for their actions. I have always given 100 percent to my students, and I expect students to give their all in return. I understand all too well, however, that many students suffer from disabilities which interfere with their educations. I have taken that understanding under consideration when instructing. I love more than anything a student who thanks me for my influence or teaching ability; I love more than anything opening a world of learning in a student.
Holding a BA in English Education, I graduated valedictorian from my college. During my formal years of education, I worked as a tutor for the Manchester, N.H. School District. After graduation, I obtained seventh-grade teaching position. After three years, I obtained an English teaching position in an academy, where I taught the following courses for seven years: Bri ... read more

I wholeheartedly believe in the power of education. I believe that education is the key to our freedom in life. I hope to teach this philosophy to my students. As a teacher, I would describe myself as laid-back and patient. I have found that my patience is what helps me in helping students comprehend the information they are learning. I teach to every learning style and intelligence. I believe all children can learn much more than we expect of them, they just have to be taught the way they learn. Diversity is what makes our world go around, and that is what I teach to my students.
Growing up, I never thought that I would want to be a teacher. After taking a job as a Childcare Counselor with the YMCA, I realized the I was meant to teach and work with children. I have been working with the YMCA for close to three years. I graduated from Manatee Community College with my ... read more
