Composition is one of my top subjects! Along with being an English and Special Education teacher and teacher for gifted and talented students, I was a writer for The New York Times for six years, specializing in feature and human interest articles on individuals in the arts.

Ever since I was in Honors English in high school back in the seventies (yes, I am a "well seasoned" teacher versus "an old teacher"), I knew that I wanted to dedicate my college years to taking every writing and literature class I could get my hands on. Once my composition was chosen as the "model essay" in my English Comp 101 class at Adelphi University, and was read by students for many years after I graduated, I knew that I meant to be a teacher and share my love for literature, writing, and "coloring outside the lines," inspiring students to be reflective, thoughtful and creative readers, writers, thinkers, and speakers. How do I summarize teaching in my life? I guess the best way to explain my teaching experience is to tell you a story. As a young girl I wanted to be a teacher. Because of my love of learning I taught all my siblings how to read. I know it is pretty funny but it is a true story. My career in education includes a wide range of experience. I began as a substitute teacher covering for classroom teachers ranging from preschool to the 12th grade. A Little Bit About Me...

In my classroom one might observe the same material presented in various ways by means of lectures, DVD documentaries, readings, discussions, and Power Point presentations in order to accommodate the students’ different methods of knowledge acquisition.
For the last four years I have been at Cardigan Mountain School, where I taught English, Latin, Homeric Greek, ESL, and Ancient History. I graduated with a Bachelors degree in Physical Education, which means I took several teaching classes. I have worked with youth for almost 10 years, working in schools, summer camps, and most recently as an director of (3) afterschool programs. I worked as a para-educator for 3 years in a school in central VT, helping tutor a 2nd grader and a 7th grader with their academics
I enjoy working with youth, ever since I was in college I have had jobs where I worked with children. I think their fun, and great to be around. As an average person, I enjoy teaching children the values and importance of their education while befriending them and understanding where they are in relation to their social-emotional, physical, and educational development.
No two children are the same, and we know that this is correct, so therefore it applies to their learning ability as well.
