A Little Bit About Me...

Teaching comes naturally to me in that I love to work with people (i.e. my professional career) and I love to encourage and inspire others to advance their lives through education. I create a comfortable atmosphere for students so that their stress level is reduced and they are able to focus on learning. At the same time, I make lessons fun yet serious. Learning requires having an interest, having a goal and paying attention. With individual tutoring, I use the opportunity to individualize lessons so students are motivated to achieve.
Having earned my college degrees as an adult, I am particularly interested in assisting adults in achieving their educational goals. I have wanted to teach since I was in second grade, and am currently working toward my license in Massachusetts. I believe that knowledge is an intimate thing, and that learning should be fun, and confidence-building. I use eliciting techniques, bringing student knowledge to the table first, and then build upon it. Knowing a student is important for preparing relevant materials for class. I believe technology is an important tool that can enhance the learning process when implemented appropriately. My Zen professor in college taught our class that in order to be a good teacher, one must be a good student. I strive to embody that principle.
