I want you to be successful in learning!

I have experience with teaching adults how to read at my local literacy organization. Also, I have tutored children with Reading and Math. I was a substitute teacher for students from Pre Kindergarten through High School with different subjects and disciplines. I can freely tutor others because of the experiences that I have had while earning my degrees. Helping others learn is a passion of mine.
My teaching style is mainly dependant on the person that I am tutoring. If a student needs to take a slower process to learn than I am adaptable to that. The same is true for someone who has a little faster pace. I am flexible.

My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : I can problem solve and work with the student, many different ways, until we come up with a strategy that "clicks" with them.

I have tutored fellow classmates in HS. I've taught my nieces and nephew to understand and love mathematics, as well as respect science, which is really just the real-world application of mathematics. I can explain many abstract topics in tangible ways. I love when I see that twinkle in someone's eye when something clicks and they grab onto the topic they once didn't comprehend.

My teaching style is basically Socratic, using questions/responses in order to explore and to understand the subject at hand. Active involvement by the student is important, asking "leading" questions to probe why and how certain things are the way they are. Additionally, my teaching style in writing is to start with the broad picture, then move to the details, subsequently returning to the broad picture. Positive reinforcement is the key. When a student sees that an adult is taking an honest interest in them, then they are not only more willing to learn, but more able. Telling a child "I know you can do it" instead of "you can do better than that" is imperative. Even the most tempermental or unmotivated student can be helped as long as that personal connection is there. I have always found that boosting their self-confidence, and thus reducing their stress/frustration level can work wonders.
