My comments on tutoring Elementary Social Studies : I can problem solve and work with the student, many different ways, until we come up with a strategy that "clicks" with them.

I have tutored fellow classmates in HS. I've taught my nieces and nephew to understand and love mathematics, as well as respect science, which is really just the real-world application of mathematics. I can explain many abstract topics in tangible ways. I love when I see that twinkle in someone's eye when something clicks and they grab onto the topic they once didn't comprehend.

Positive reinforcement is the key. When a student sees that an adult is taking an honest interest in them, then they are not only more willing to learn, but more able. Telling a child "I know you can do it" instead of "you can do better than that" is imperative. Even the most tempermental or unmotivated student can be helped as long as that personal connection is there. I have always found that boosting their self-confidence, and thus reducing their stress/frustration level can work wonders. I really enjoy working one on one. When a student masters a skill, it is very rewarding. Every student learns differently and they have a tendency toward either kinetic, hearing or sight. If one method of learning does not work, then I have tried another until something clicks with the student. One needs to find out what pushes their buttons and gets them excited.
