I like working in small groups and 1-on-1 is even better. I like to get to know them, become a friend/buddy with the student so they feel comfortable with me. In the past, with good and trouble students, this has worked and it seems like they don't want to let me down and that they do trust me and start trusting what I am telling them and enjoying it. In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.

I left full time teaching 3 years ago. I was the whole math dept. I taught 6,7,8,9th grade math in a private school. I did not realize how much I would miss it. I sometimes day dream about how I would teach a certain topic a different way. I have always thought that teaching is magical. Ever since I volunteered at Guilderland High School where I helped children with homework, I love teaching and being around with children. Once you put the effort into their learning and be there with them one step at a time until they finally understand the concept and/or get the answer, it is an amazing feeling.
I recently graduated from Syracuse University. I majored in finance and marketing management with a minor in information technology. In my finance courses, I have gained extensive knowledge in different areas of math. Apart from my academic studies, I joined clubs where I held leadership positions which allowed me build team building and leadership skills. When I was a junior in high school, I volunteered for the YMCA. I worked at Guilderland Elementary School, where I helped the kids with their homework. It was definitely a memorable experience.
