A Little Bit About Me...

As a Siena College graduate I developed a very hands on approach to active learning. Through classroom lecture and instruction I've completed the necessary coursework to complete my BS of biology. Due to my strong work ethic I've gained knowledge and skills in the physical sciences, as well as in other subject areas. During my college years I subbed as teacher at a public K-12 school. During that time I taught a variety of grade levels, and worked as a one-on-one aide.
I believe that in order to succeed in teaching and being an educator you must inspire those that you are teaching. A child who is excited to learn, will do much better. I feel a hands on approach is best, guiding the child to personal success.

A Little Bit About Me...

While I am not a teacher by profession, I spent much time in the academic support center at SUNY Cobleskill as a freshman tutoring students in different kinds of math. (ie: algebra,fractions, etc) and occasionally in english and science. I also had to lead several class discussions at grad school at times, teaching the readings or materials for that week. This included presentations and answering questions from the audience. However, my main interest would be in math or english (ie: reading and writing) because over the years I have found these to be invaluable tools. In science and math the learner has to practice much like learning to play a musical instrument. It helps if you can bring real world applications into the classroom so it is meaningful to the students otherwise they feel like they are learning something just for the cause of learning.
While completing my teaching degree I taught for three years with troubled youth. Subjects were regents level and the subject was earth science and algebra or course I as it is called in NY. I have also taught Summer school at the Allen Center in South Kortright which can be a tough crowd to work with. During my undergraduate studies I tutored chemistry and biology. My first career was as a Registered Professional Nurse (NYS licensure) for 25 years. During those years, I kept up my interest in various fields of math, such as Abstract Algebra, Differential equations, and topology. I was especially interested in algebraically-capable computer math programs. I,eventually, went back to school for my Mathematics degree as part of a long-standing interest in and commitment to Mathematics.
