I am a believer in learning and understanding concepts and principles of the subject being studied. Asking why and how we come to a conclusion rather than memorizing or mindlessly going through steps generates long term success. I believe that this is the best way for a student to prepare for any question or scenario that may be asked or given as well as preparing for future expansion in the subject.
I am a pre-med student at MTSU, and I will be graduating with a second degree in Science this year. I have experience tutoring grade school students in math and reading subjects. I also have experience teaching college students in science subjects. Before attending MTSU, I was a professional ballroom dancer and instructor for five years. I have experience teaching ballroom dancing to children as young as five and adults as young as 70!

Organic Chemistry is one of my top subjects! One of the best breaks from lab work in graduate school was teaching and tutoring! I have taught as a Graduate Teaching Assistant for three years in organic chemistry (6 semesters), teaching both in the lab and in the class. During this time, I also tutored for both Organic Chemistry I and II on the side (class or lab). I also have four years of actual organic chemistry research under my belt!

While I initially went to graduate school to become a research scientist, my focus shifted to teaching after I found out I enjoyed it so much! I took on multiple students in one-on-one tutoring sessions every semester, and helped them to succeed in organic chemistry. College students fear organic chemistry more than most classes, but I assure you I can make it not only understandable, but pretty simple! There are a handful of basic principles (pKa, electronics, reactivity, etc.) that I use in concert with a student's homework, exams, and practice problems to turn organic chemistry from an overwhelming, impossible, memorization-fest into a predictable, easy-to-understand course. I am well-versed in basic molecular structure, orbitals, reactions, mechanisms (arrow-pushing), NMR spectroscopy, mass spectrometry, Infrared spectroscopy -- really anything addressed in undergraduate organic c ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I enjoy finding out a student’s area of difficulty and address it directly. Students have different learning styles, it easy for me teach in a variety of styles so that to make sure my students understands. I do also apply almost everything I teach to real world situations, for example most young students may think that learning about triangles will not benefit his/her career in business. As his/her teacher I will show the student how one can use triangles to determine where to built a manufacturing company equidistant (meaning the distant between each raw material supply place to the manufacturing place is the same) to three raw material supply areas, which are not in the same place.

More About This Tutor...

Through my work with elementary, high school, and college students, I understand the anxieties that often surround math, science, and high pressure assessments. In tutoring and in the classroom I work to develop individualized scaffolding to build the skills, knowledge, and confidence needed to successfully engage the material. As a great fan of history, art, politics, and athletics, I strive to make all my sessions as interdisciplinary, dynamic, and "real-world" as possible. As a result of the above elements in my teaching strategy, my students are often engaged and successful, even beyond the time frame of the tutoring sessions.
Over the past ten years I have been a student (BS), an engineer, a teacher, and a student again (MS, PhD). My interests in education have led me from the high-need classrooms on Chicago's West side to Vanderbilt's Peabody campus to engage a PhD progra ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I never thought about teaching, but as the oldest girl of 15 grandchildren I have been teaching someone something my whole life. I believe in positive reinforcement and repetition. Each person has their own learning style. You just have to find it. Nothing is too hard for anyone to comprehend. You must believe in yourself, once you do that, you can do anything whether you like it or not.
As a honors graduate, I have always loved sharing knowledge with others. I have worked hard and earned the distinction as an affable and thorough teacher and tutor. Throughout undergrad, I tutored grades 3-6 in Math, Science, and Writing at F.L. Stanton Elementary in Atlanta, GA. Upon graduating, propelled by wanderlust I ended up teaching English to Japanese students, 0-45 years, in Japan for three years. All of my students showed progress and a genuine appreciation for the materials. Having secur ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

I thoroughly enjoy teaching others. Seeing a student have that “aha” moment when they finally understand a concept gives me a great feeling of accomplishment. I always try to cater to each student based upon their previous educational experiences, but no matter what, I have found that students typically learn best when using practical examples where they can see a concept in action. I am a very responsible and patient person who works hard so that my students can do their best.
As a summa cum laude college graduate and a future medical school student starting in August, I have always strived for perfection during my college education. Receiving a B.S. in biology with a minor in chemistry, I have a very strong knowledge base in these sciences. However, due to the variety of classes required for admission to medical school, I have a strong foundation in subject matter such as physics ... read more

A Little Bit About Me...

While obtaining my chemistry degree at Butler, I also completed all requirements for a secondary education license with the exception of student teaching and worked as a math and science tutor with a private tutoring service in Indianapolis. I also was a "Mad Science" instructor, teaching after school programs to grades k-12 in science. Upon graduation, I worked as a medicinal chemist for 5 year and attended law school at night. I completed my law degree in 2006 and now currently work at Vanderbilt University negotiating research agreements. I recently taught test prep course for Sherwood Test Prep-but disliked the format of the classes. I prefer to tutor one on one with students and look forward to getting back into tutoring math and science on a regular basis, not only for extra income, but to get back to my teaching roots.
As a Mad Scientist, I learned how to make learning ... read more

I believe that all children have the potential to become successful, lifelong learners. I also believe that I have the kindness and patience that's required to work one-on-one with students and help explain difficult concepts in a way that they can understand. It is very important to listen to the students and ask them where they are having trouble, and help explain the concepts slowly and clearly. I also understand how some students may feel because I, too, needed a tutor at one time in high school.
I have student teaching experience in physical science at the eighth grade level as well as biology at the high school level. I also have prior tutoring experience at a sylvan learning center where I tutored students in basic math, science homework support and ACT prep in science. I'm currently substitute teaching and tutoring a family of three children all in the sciences.

I graduated East Tennessee State University (Magne Cum Laude) with a B.S degree in Chemistry. I have taken extensive course work in math due to my love for it in that areas. In my course Curriculum, I was not required to take Calc 1,2 or even 3 but I took all those because I love math. Over the last 6 years in college and high school, I have tutored people in Precalculus, Calculus 1,2, Chemistry, Physics, Organic 1 and 2.
My interest for helping people emerges from the fact that I want to be a physician. I always wanted to become a physician so I can help people and that is the reason i love tutoring students to achieve what they want. I am a very patient with my students as I realize that every student has their own speed of grasping the new material.
