A Little Bit About Me...

It is important for me to help students understand through real world examples. I do my best to develop training material and a learning environment that is relatable to their ultimate application. Much of the training I do requires initial "buy-in" ... if a student does not believe what they are learning will have application and benefit for them, they will not be open to learn. I try very hard to build this confidence up-front.

I have a master's degree in English plus 21 hours. I taught high school English for 21 years. I now teach online and tutor at the Boys and Girls Club. I have expertise in writing, literature, and grammar. When I was an English teacher I taught English 7 - 12. During those years I taught a total of 21 Shakespearean plays to my five classes. I worked with the Minnesota Literacy Council tutoring adult learners in basic math and reading skills. I attempted multiple approaches with each person until we found one that allowed the learner to make sense of the symbols and language. I encouraged the ability to work at the material until the learner could make it his/her own in some way. I also trained new employees each month in the use of a software program at a pharmaceutical company. Employees were required to learn the program regardless of experience and ability with computer programs. I was challenged to engage disinterested employees, encourage frustrated employees, and meet the demands of highly inquisitive employees while maintaining focus on the required information.
