My teaching styles vary depending on the student. I had one student who was an adult, moving to Ecuador for 2 years to work. I taught him the basics using methods such as flash cards, workbooks, and homework assignments. We met 3x a week for 3 months. In college I taught a Spanish course for a Christian Highschool near my university. This was rather different since the students were in their early teens. My method with them was 'FUN.' I used pop culture and things that interested them to help them learn. For example: I had them bring in a picture of their favorite celebrity and they had to describe the colors, clothing, and characteristics of that celebrity in Spanish. It was a success.

I was a corporate trainer for 3 years, followed by 12 years serving as a software instructor. Prior to and throughout this time, I also taught Sunday school and Vacation Bible school, teaching everyone from 2 year olds to adults. I spent one summer as a reading tutor, and many of my software classes have been 1-on-1 tutoring sessions. I have volunteered as an SOL coach and in Head Start classrooms.
When I teach reading, I convey my love of reading. When I teach math, I convey the logical beauty of math. When I teach other subjects, I stress the importance of the material and how it is relevant to everyday life. In Sunday school this week, we combined with another class, so there were people there who aren’t usually. Several of them thanked me and let me know how much they got out of it. I am a William and Mary graduate with a BS in Chemistry, with several years of programming experience from developing my own computer games. In addition I performed laboratory research at the College of William and Mary for a thesis and have 2 years of experience tutoring in Elementary Spanish, Computer Science, General Chemistry, and Organic Chemistry.
