My comments on tutoring Reading : One way to encourage my students to read more is to make reading relevant. I often review what they are reading in class and connect the material to pop culture, sports, or current events so the material becomes relevant.

I believe I have the skills set and passion needed to successfully tutor a variety of students. A lot of my time is spent babysitting, and while doing that I have helped several of the kids out with homework. Because of my experience in teaching my own children, I have discovered that no child is too young to learn. Often people will not consider an infant or toddler a "functioning human being" until the child can speak. This is so inaccurate! I taught one of my daughters to read at age four. Not every method works for every child; with one exception, patience. I demonstrate and exemplify patience. If a child feels as though they are in an atmosphere where they are safe, free of ridicule and bias, then they are willing to perform. This process can be a give take scenario however. So, some flexibility is required as well, but eventually the student will become more comfortable with themselves and confident in what they are capable of.
