I always try to encourage the student to do the problems on his or her own, especially in math. I feel I have enough experience in math to be able to try different angles or come up with examples to help the student understand the concepts. I hope to help the student think positively and realize that he or she can do anything if he or she believes.
This past school year I worked with a senior high school student on his pre-calculus schoolwork; we met once a week and he was able to improve his grade enough to pass the class and keep his athletic scholarship to Indiana Tech. I also mentored a freshman high school student in the area once a week and participated in the tutoring program at the South Bend Juvenile Correctional Facility.

I'm a teacher aide, currently working my third year as an instructional ENL assistant at Shelbyville High School. I provide tutoring help in English and Spanish assisting with homework in Pre-Algebra, Algebra, Geometry, Algebra II, Spanish, ENL-English for students who first language is not English, (Comprehension, and Reading & Writing) to Elementary, Middle, and High school students. (I got a Bachelor degree in Civil Engineer in Colombia.) I feel confortable working with Hispanic students, and adults, too. I am not overbearing. I am laid back, but at the same time, I make sure that the student learns what he/she needs to learn. I am very patient. I try to respect the student and not make learning seem like a chore. Building a foundation of learning skills, even during a short tudoring session can really change a student's approach in all of their classes.
I have taken education classes at Northern Kentucky University. At one point, I was considering on being a Art Teacher. I didn't finish with that path, but I did gain much experience with children and knowledge during that time in working with students. I have worked and studied special needs children as well. I still consider going back for a Master's at some point in education. I think this job would be beneficial in my goals, and for my students, and a great learning experience for us both.

A Little Bit About Me...

I have tutored students of all ages, from elementary school to adults. I have taught at the elementary level, and substitute taught kindergarten through high school, but I most enjoy tutoring one-on-one.
