The bilingual students I teach have a unique challenge in that the letters of the alphabet represent different sounds in English versus Spanish. I went from the Boston Public Schools to Commonwealth School and then Wellesley College, and would have been lost, early on, without help from tutors. I majored in English and Russian and work with several communities for whom English is not their first language.
