A Little Bit About Me...

Most recently, I was a high school math teacher for 3 years specializing in PreAlgebra, Algebra I, Geometry, and Astronomy. I taught regular, advanced, and special education classes. I strongly believe that students grow and excel when they are given challenges that are just beyond their current level of understanding. I was a special education paraprofessional for six years at the elementary and high school level. I have a BS in Physics/Astronomy with a Math minor from Vanderbilt University, and I taught for four years at the United States Naval Nuclear Power School.

I have a BS in biology with a teaching emphasis as well as an AS and AA. My college education has included classes in anatomy and physiology, geology, physics, organic and standard chemistry, zoology and botany. I have been a member of a field research team and involved in my own research project. I have tutored students in not only biology but also many other academic disciplines. I also have a broad base of life experiences.

I am a self starter, and am good at trying to help someone to see what their potential can be. I am a life-long learner and believe education is what makes people successful in today's society. I own a lot of software programs from the Teach12 curricula. I learn such things as discreet math, the Joy of Science and Understanding the Brain to name a few. I bring a lot of energy to the classroom and ensure that I am over-prepared for each lesson. I enjoy involving every student in a classroom setting and encourage an active, open learning environment. I also believe it is a very valuable experience to be able to work with students one-on-one. I like to work with each student to figure out his or her individual learning style and needs.
