Fuller Learning. The holistic aproach to tutoring

I can adapt my teaching style to auditory, visual or hands-on type learning. I try to create a relaxed and fun (silly for the little ones) atmosphere where learning will be fun and memorable, because I believe that if you enjoy it - you'll remember it. All students will be given a pre-test prior to instruction so that I can decern if the students problem is one of cognative development or simply gaps in the learning process. I try to help the student relate their learning to real world experiences.

Myriad of subjects can be covered

I like to make connections between what is relevant in the world right now to the subject matter.
I have worked with children in one role or another for the past ten years. Last semester I student taught 8th grade American History in Fort Collins and completed my social studies licensure. I then substitute taught a myriad of subjects from English to Math, grades pre-K through 12th grade. Before that I spent four years going through CSU's education department and semesters with students ranging 6th grade to 12th grade.

Helping and watching children learn is inherently rewarding. While skills and content must be mastered, methods can and should be tailored to the individual student. Each child has her/his own style of cognitive processing and problem solving. Attention to the learner's style is critical to the successful acquisition of skills and concepts. I strive to make learning fun. Also, I have been trained in assorted mnemonic (memory) strategies. Most importantly, I believe self esteem is an essential factor in educational growth. I have a BA in English, and graduate magna cum laude. I was accepted into an Alternative Teacher LIcensing Program for the state of Colorado, and taught language arts for the 2009-2010 school year. I have passed my Praxis II exam, and I am best at working with grammar and mechanics.
I like to encourage my students to put themselves into their writing. I like to push my students to write better than what they think is their best. I take pride in following grammatical rules, and am a stickler for proper MLA formatting for research based papers. I believe all children have the right to a great education; they just need someone to push them in the right direction. I love children, and I can almost always find a way to relate to my students.
