In college I was a "student instructor" in my university's writing lab, which is just another way of saying that I was a tutor. Post graduation, I now have experience with journalism as I've written articles for The Style Vibe and Green Label, both highly respected online magazines. Also as a creative writer I have published numerous short stories as well as a few poems. I currently have two novellas under review for publication.

My comments on tutoring Journalism : Have a BS in Journalism

I am currently a tutor and contract educator in the Richmond area. I have been an instructor at Rice University, and I have been a substitute teacher for the Toms River (NJ) school system. I have undergraduate degrees in history and journalism as well as graduate degrees in history. I have also worked in the public history field as a museum interpreter and educator. I have had years to hone both my oral and written communication skills, from my first fledging writing and public speaking efforts as a student to my more recent work as a teacher and scholar. I have worked with a diverse range of people in my career, including students, teachers, faculty, staff, historians, publishers, authors, volunteers, and the general public. I have 30 years journalism and communications experience and completed all course work for M.A. in journalism. I am the author or co-author of 14 books and hundreds of articles. I made a living as freelance writer for 15 years and had writing jobs on staff for about 15 years.
I am interested in teaching writing and language arts skills to students. My style is to adapt to the skill level and interests of the student and to work toward their own goals, whether these are to write a personal essay for college, to learn to write better generally, or to develop better overall English skills so they can move on to the next grade in school.
