I have been teaching English and History education for three years. I have experience on the 7th, 8th 9th and 10th grade levels. For the last three years my high school English courses have been centered on ACT prep. for the ACT/MME students take their junior year. My eighth grade curriculum focuses on strengthening testing scores, reading comprehension and writing ability (formal and creative). I also have taught Shakespeare and core minored in Shakespearean Lit while earning my English Degree. My experience with history education has been focused in geography, culture, western civilization, American history, European history and African American/African histories. I have taught the summer school credit recovery classes in my school district for three years and have also home schooled and tutored for seven years. I also had several classes focused on African American Literature.

I usually employ a Socratic style of interaction, seldom answering students’ questions, but rather guiding them to the answer, or at least an answer, through strategic questions designed to clarify their thinking processes and work toward a solution to the problem at hand. Frequently, I might not know the specific answer to a question, and in such instances, the student and I will engage in an academic scavenger hunt to find it. This practice contains much value, as the student will learn the techniques and strategies by which to effectively ferret out material that may otherwise go unnoticed. I am less a teacher than I am a facilitator of learning, and I strive to create an environment in which learning is both successful and enjoyable. I've been tutoring for the Goodwill to help disadvantaged youth, tutoring ASU students in accounting, economics and algebra. In addition, I helped a friend pass her GED. I have a Marketing BS as well as over 15 hours in accounting and German. Professionally, I have done over 18 years of sales training. In addition, I've been a guest lecturer at Indiana University Northwest and a consultant to the Gary Area Career Center and past member for the Hoosiers for Higher Education. One of the most favorable things that I love to do is helping children to gain more understanding in their academics. I have worked with different children in the past, and I have helped so many of them to understand that they can be the best in whatever they set out to do. I am very patient, tolerant and can help your child improve and get the best experience in learning. Based on my degree which is BS in Finance and MS in Management Information Systems I have been able to touch so many learning experiences from this. The nature of my studies has helped me to gain more understanding in both the business aspect and sciences.
