I worked as a teacher's assistant for several years in public schools in Illinois, assisting in K-5 classrooms. I worked at Sylvan Learning Center for 2 years, teaching beginning reading and elementary reading. As I gained experience, I began tutoring students in the school district where I worked. After several years, I became a fifth grade teacher in a private school where I taught for 5 years. I draw on a variety of teaching experiences that contribute to my success with students. My most recent position was teaching all subjects to grades K-4 in a self-contained classroom. We had a family atmosphere with an open door policy where parents could visit and talk with me before and after school any day of the week. I taught H.S. chemistry I & II in the Indianapolis area from 2001-2005. Entering college at Western Michigan U, I had plans on becoming a teacher, but went into the analytical research laboratory. I decided to go back and get my teaching license because I have a passion for education. I believe that the learning experience is wonderful and chemistry/science excites me.
